CERTIFICATION CURRICULUM
Both certifications follow the same 4-level curriculum with the same Teacher Training material, differing only in the Pre-Choreographed Workout you learn in Level 1. The Pre-Choreographed Workout offered in the Aging Backwards track is designed for instructors who need a gentler workout for themselves and whose sole desire is to teach an older population. The routine follows the same 1-hour standing and floor structure as our Comprehensive track, with a slightly slower pace and more tailored cues to suit that demographic. All exam requirements are the same for each Level, with consideration given to the track you have chosen. |
CLASSES YOU CAN TEACH
The Comprehensive certification track is our most complete track as it encompasses the elements of the Aging Backwards track and allows you to teach every type of Essentrics class including Aging Backwards classes, Essentrics Gentle Stretch & Strength, and our Release, Rebalance, Restore classes. The Aging Backwards track allows you to teach only Aging Backwards classes, which includes Essentrics Gentle Stretch & Strength and our Release, Rebalance, Restore classes. |
For instructors with full mobility who want to teach all levels and class types, including: Essentrics classes for the general public and/or an advanced fitness level, Essentrics Barre, Essentrics Release, Rebalance, Restore, and Essentrics Aging Backwards classes.
The Essentrics instructor that pursues the Comprehensive Certification track understands that an Essentrics class is always a full-body workout that builds strength, increases flexibility and energizes all 650 muscles. They love all the various Essentrics workouts and are ready for the more challenging medium-paced Pre-Choreographed Workout 1 as found in Level 1 of the Comprehensive track. Their goal is to teach vibrant, dynamic classes that would suit a wide variety of students and be appropriate for a range of locations including popular gyms, personal studios, community centers, boutique studios, or other high traffic centers.
The Comprehensive Certification track allows you to teach all levels of fitness, from a general fitness group in Level 1, to a wider demographic of students as you progress within the certification. Upon completion of Level 4, instructors will be able to offer classes to more specific target markets of their interest, from athletes to Aging Backwards. The use of the barre/chairs and teaching an Aging Backwards demographic is included in the Level 3 curriculum.
An Essentrics workout is always a purposeful, full-body, rebalancing workout that combines standing, floor and/or barre/chair work set to a fun, eclectic playlist. Each class can focus slightly more on specific objectives such as body shaping, core strengthening or hip mobility. The first level of the Comprehensive Certification curriculum will require you to learn the 1-hour Pre-Choreographed Workout 1 suited for a general fitness level; a medium-paced standing and floor workout with a focus on increasing full body movement while strengthening and lengthening every muscle.
Our workouts are meant to help carry your body through its lifespan. No matter your age, you should have healthy joints, healthy connective tissue, healthy muscles, and should be fully mobile and strong. An Essentrics workout caters to all general fitness levels within the same class. The class not only tones and shapes your muscles, but most importantly takes care of the health of your entire musculoskeletal system. Regardless of your client’s age, the science behind what their body needs to prevent and reverse aging doesn’t change. By activating all their muscles cells and purposefully working through all muscle chains, you will rebalance, strengthen, and liberate their full bodies, leaving them energized, fuelled and wanting more.
The Essentrics Comprehensive Certification track licenses you to teach all Pre-Choreographed Workouts (PCWs) in our Teacher Training library including Essentrics PCWs, Essentrics Barre PCWs, Essentrics Release Rebalance Restore (RRR) PCWs as well as the Aging Backwards and Gentle Stretch & Strength routines.
This track is provided for instructors who will appreciate a softer start to the program, looking to regain and maintain their mobility as they gently build up their strength, all the while teaching their peers.
The Essentrics Aging Backwards instructor is passionate about helping others feel their absolute best as they age, and wants to share a safe, complete workout that helps their students achieve their goals of mobility, strength and freedom of movement in their body. Many of our AB instructors are retired and have entered a new passion project by becoming an Essentrics instructor, many have never taught before, and all of them are wonderful advocates of great health. Countless instructors were students first, have experienced a profound transformation with this technique and simply want to learn to teach so they can share it with their friends, peers and community.
There is an increasing demand for a fitness class that is tailored to the needs of a vibrant aging population. Some of this population is fit and healthy and wants to maintain or develop their flexibility, strength and overall health with a safe, yet active class. Others in this age group have been more sedentary and need a slower paced workout to rebuild their body for a strong future. No matter whether your clients are age 30 or 60, the science behind what their body needs to prevent and reverse aging doesn’t change: a rebalancing full body workout. By activating all their muscles cells and purposefully working through all muscle chains and joints, you will strengthen, stretch, and liberate their full bodies while respecting their individual limitations and keeping them injury free.
An Aging Backwards Essentrics workout is very similar to a general Essentrics workout; the main difference is that it’s done at a slower pace. These classes also focus slightly more on increasing joint mobility, releasing tight fascia (which takes time to reverse), and improving balance. This approach of gradually building up strength tends to the needs of both a Level 1 Aging Backwards instructor and their desired clientele. Being mindful of individual natural limitations and keeping everyone injury free is a priority. Aging Backwards classes offer the same fun class experience as our general Essentrics classes, with a mixed playlist of today’s music as well as classical, movie soundtracks and international rhythms. The 1-hour Aging Backwards Pre-Choreographed Workout that you will learn in Level 1 is a slightly slower version of the general Essentrics certification workout. It follows the same standing and floor structure with more tailored cues and pointers for this specific demographic.
The Essentrics Aging Backwards® certification track licenses you to teach Essentrics Aging Backwards® and Essentrics Gentle Stretch & Strength classes. These are our slower paced workouts that involve a variety of standing, floor and/or barre/chair work. Instructors who feel that they would like to teach all other Essentrics class types to a wider range of students, ages and fitness levels, can easily transfer into the Comprehensive Certification track at any point in their training. This will require them to learn to teach Pre-Choreographed Workout 1 from the Comprehensive track and submit the corresponding exam. All other curriculum requirements in our 4-level certification are the same for both tracks.
